Read: 444 | Medical Conditions Category
Even with the best care, heart
failure can worsen. But people who don't take care of themselves are writing a
prescription for poor health. On the other hand, those who do take care of
themselves sometimes can lead long and productive lives. Here is a checklist of
things you can do to help yourself.
- Visit your doctor regularly.
- Follow your doctor's instructions.
- Take any medication according to instructions.
- Tell your doctor of any change in your condition.
- Watch what you eat and avoid fatty and salty foods.
- Don't smoke or use other tobacco products.
- Limit alcohol.
- Rest when needed.
- Follow your doctor's suggestions about physical
activity.
- Avoid extremes of heat and cold, which make the
heart work harder.
- Learn to take your own blood pressure and do so
according to your doctor's advice.
For more information please ask your physician on
your next visit.
