  • APPENDICITIS
  • The appendix is a small, thin out pouching of the large intestine, about the size and shape of your child's little finger. It lies in the lower right side of the stomach and it is not thought to have any function. Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix.
  • ASTHMA IN CHILDREN
  • Asthma is a condition that causes the airways in the lungs to become narrow and inflamed, making breathing difficult. In the majority of children, asthma causes nothing more serious than mild wheezing as air is squeezed in and out and, as long as they are receiving treatment, they can lead normal lives. However, severe cases must be kept under control or it can be fatal.
  • AUTISM
  • Some children with autism have a low IQ, associated learning difficulties, little or no speech and display challenging behaviour. People at the high end of the spectrum have a variety of the condition called Asperger's syndrome.
  • BIRTHMARKS
  • Birthmarks are non-malignant lesions of the skin, sometimes present at birth, sometimes appearing a few weeks or months later. They either contain pigment cells or blood vessels. Some disappear while others remain for life.
  • CEREBRAL PALSY
  • Cerebral palsy is the term used to describe conditions in which children have abnormal movement or posture because the brain has failed to develop properly, or has been damaged in pregnancy, at birth or after birth.
  • Chest Infections
  • Any infection of the lower respiratory tract is termed a chest infection. It is common for this to. occur during early childhood because the immune system hasn't matured.

  • CHICKENPOX
  • The incubation period - from being in contact with the illness to becoming ill ­is 10 to 21 days. The illness lasts for up to 10 days with the rash appearing on day one or two, and disappearing around the eighth day. The child is infectious for 24 hours before the first spots appear and until all the spots are covered with scabs.
  • CHILD ABUSE
  • Child abuse is the blanket term for four types of child mistreatment: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect. In many cases children are the victims of more than one type of abuse. The abusers can be parents or other family members, caretakers such as teachers and babysitters, acquaintances (including other children), and (in rare instances) strangers.
